CEDAR BLUFF TOWN COUNCIL MEETING

TUESDAY DECEMBER 27, 2011 AT 4:30 PM

 

The Town Council of the Town of Cedar Bluff, County of Cherokee, State of Alabama, met in Regular Session in the Council Room at Town Hall, 3420 Spring Street, Cedar Bluff,  Alabama, Monday, December 27, 2011 at 4:30 PM pursuant to notice duly posted as prescribed by law. Mayor Ethel Sprouse presided and called the meeting to order.  Members in attendance were as follows:

The invocation was given by Leatha Harp.

 

Mayor Sprouse led the pledge to the flag of the United States.

 

1.      Minutes from November 28, 2011 meeting

Mayor Sprouse asked for a motion approving the minutes from the November 28, 2011 meeting.  The motion was made by Evan Smith and seconded by Jack Bond.

 

        Motion Carried (5-0)

      AYE: Smith, McWhorter, Bond, Burton, Harp.

      NAY:  None.

 

2.      Minutes from other Boards and Committees

Minutes from the October and November meeting of the Planning Commission and the Utility Board were presented to council.

 

3.      Meeting calendar for 2012

The 2012 council meeting calendar was presented to council.  The regular council meetings will be held the second and fourth Monday of each month at 4:30 PM except when a holiday falls on Monday then the meeting will be held on Tuesday.

 

4.      Police report

Officer J. P. Curry gave the activity report for the police department as follows: 9 citations; 14 warnings; 14 arrests; and 65 reports were taken.

 

5.      Fire report

Fire Chief Shane Woodham was not in attendance at the meeting and the fire department activity report was given by J. P. Curry.  Activity for the fire department was: 1 unclassified fire; 1 building fire; 1 fire in structure other than a building; 1 trash or rubbish fire; 1fire in a mobile home used as fixed residence; 1 forest, woods or wildland fire; 1 rescue, EMS incident; 3 medical assist; 3 motor vehicle accident with injuries; 4 motor vehicle accident with no injuries and 1 unclassified special incident.  A total of 18 calls were made. One call made west of old hwy 9 inside the town limits; 7 calls made west of old hwy 9 outside the town limits; 4 calls made east of old hwy 9 inside the town limits and 5 calls made east of old hwy 9 outside the town limits.

 

6.      Other business

(a)    Mayor Sprouse told the council that she had been contacted by Little River Marina regarding sponsorship of tagged fish for the planned fishing tournaments to be held by the Weiss Lake Improvement Association. 

 

(b)   Mayor Sprouse advised the council the assistant town clerk Misty Ferguson had completed 30 hours of education and training for certification as a planning and zoning official. 

 

(c)    Mayor Sprouse announced the pending appointments of Eugene Smith and Deric Guise to the Cedar Bluff Volunteer Fire Department.  Mr. Smith and Mr. Guise will be appointed after the necessary drug screen.

 

(d)   Jack Bond asked about the status of enforcement of the International Property Maintenance Code that was recently adopted. Mayor Sprouse has planned meetings with the circuit clerk to work out the procedure for prosecuting violations of the ordinance.

 

(e)    After some discussion of the sponsorship of tagged fish; the cost of sponsorship and the advertisement that would accompany the sponsorship, Norman Burton made a motion to sponsor 20 fish at a cost of $25.00 each (total $500.00). The motion was seconded by Lenora McWhorter.

 

                         Motion Carried (5-0)

                         AYE: Smith, McWhorter, Bond, Burton, Harp.

                         NAY:  None.

 

7.      Adjourn

After assurance from the council that there was no other business to discuss, Mayor Sprouse asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. The motion was made by Leatha Harp and seconded by Lenora McWhorter.

 

Motion Carried.
