CEDAR BLUFF PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

JUNE 4, 2007 AT 5:00 P.M.

 

The Cedar Bluff Planning Commission met in regular session in the Council Room at Town Hall, 3420 Spring Street, Cedar Bluff, Alabama, Monday, June 4, 2007 at 5:00 p.m., pursuant to notice duly posted as prescribed by law. Chairman Herb Sherwin presided and called the meeting to order.  Members in attendance were as follows:

Also present was Zoning Enforcement Officer Jimmy Wallace, Weiss Radio Reporter, and Herald Report.

 

Item No. 1:                                                       Call to Order

 

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Herb Sherwin.

 

Item No. 2:                                                       Approve minutes of the May 7, 2007 meeting

 

A motion was made by W K Summers, seconded by Leatha Harp, that the minutes be approved as presented.  Motion carried (6-0).

 

Item No. 3:                                                       Discuss land owner or guardian of property located on Hwy 9 across from the Country Store.

 

            Chairman Herb Sherwin, advised this item had been assigned as an action item for member Debbie Shaw.

In Mrs. Shaw’s absence DeLana Martin advised she had spoken with County Revenue Officer Johnny Roberts about the property and the property is still in the name of David Helm’s estate. 

Mr. Roberts advised that no improvements should be made on the property until the estate is settled.

 

Item No. 4:                                                       Discuss the FEMA requirements for mobile homes.

 

            Chairman Herb Sherwin advised he had been given this action item to research and that he found FEMA had no requirements for mobile home.  Mr. Sherwin advised that FEMA went by state requirements.

Mr. Sherwin distributed excerpt from the Alabama Code regarding mobile home and advised the town must enforce the Alabama Code.

 

Item No. 5:                                                       Discuss limiting the number of recreational vehicles allowed on a lot.                             

 

The Commission discussed limiting the number of recreational vehicles allowed on a lot in Cedar Bluff.  After the discussion, a motion was made by DeLana Martin, seconded by Leatha Harp to advertise for a public hearing on July 2, 2007 to limit recreational vehicles to one (1) per lot inside Cedar Bluff city limits.    Motion carried. (6-0)

 

Item No. 6                                                       Discuss regulating the location of swimming pools on residential property.

 

            The Town has had someone put a swimming pool in their front yard and had complaints from neighbors.  The Commission discussed the options of restricting pools in the front yard and decided to leave the ordinance as is with no restrictions for pools in yards.

           

Item No. 7:                                                       Old Business.

 

            There was no Old Business to be considered.

           

Item No. 8:                                                       New Business

 

            In New Business, Chairman Sherwin asked the Commission their opinion on adopting some criteria for commercial building plans and landscaping.  He advised he would like for Cedar Bluff to require certain appearances for commercial buildings facing the street.

There being no further business to come before the meeting, a motion was made by DeLana Martin, seconded by Jerry Holt, that the meeting be adjourned (5:55 p. m).  Motion carried (6-0).
